Corey Bergman
Counselling Therapist - Student Intern

Corey is an intern clinical counsellor who brings over 20 years of frontline experience to his practice. As a veteran, Corey has worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds and is well-equipped to support clients facing a wide range of challenges. His career shift into counselling was inspired by witnessing the powerful, transformative impact therapy had on at-risk individuals. This led him to pursue rigorous training with the goal of walking alongside others in a compassionate, purposeful, and lasting way.

Corey believes in building a collaborative and transparent therapeutic relationship, where clients feel respected, heard, and empowered. His approach is rooted in empathy and a deep commitment to creating a safe and supportive space for personal growth. Corey tailors his therapeutic methods to meet the unique needs of each individual, using a goal-oriented framework that helps clients move beyond their current challenges toward meaningful and lasting change.

With individuals, Corey integrates evidence-based modalities such as Bowen Family Systems Therapy, Psychoanalytic Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. When working with couples, he draws from approaches including the Gottman Method, Developmental Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT) to foster emotional maturity, secure attachment, and relational resilience.

Corey has worked extensively with diverse populations and is especially passionate about supporting children/youth, individuals navigating addiction, trauma survivors, and couples seeking to strengthen their relationships. He has a particular heart for frontline workers, drawing from his own experience to help them build resilience, recover from burnout, and process occupational trauma in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.

Outside the counselling room, Corey leads a life rooted in adventure, service, and connection with nature. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys hunting, fishing, fly tying, beekeeping, scuba diving, canoe tripping, and cabin building. As a certified Nova Scotia Guide, he volunteers as a fishing guide for veterans recovering from PTSD, combining his love for the outdoors with therapeutic support. Corey is also deeply involved in youth mentorship through survival camps, Scouts Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and various faith-based community groups and ministries. His life and work are fuelled by a passion for helping others discover their inner strength, purpose, and resilience.
