Sheryl Samuel
Counselling Student Intern, MA

Sheryl is a counseling practicum student currently completing the academic portion of her Master’s in Counselling and Psychology at Yorkville University. She previously graduated from Saint Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Science, Honours Psychology. With a passion for mental health advocacy, particularly for children and teens, Sheryl is dedicated to helping young people navigate challenges and build resilience.

Born in India and having lived in Halifax with her family since the age of three, Sheryl has been shaped by the influence of both Indian and Canadian cultures. This unique background has given her a deep understanding of cultural differences, and she strives to create a culturally sensitive and inclusive space for clients of all backgrounds.

Sheryl has hands-on experience in teaching piano, babysitting, and volunteering with various children’s activities. She has spent the last four years working with children and youth in a not for profit role, where she has developed strong connections with teenagers and fostered a supportive environment. This role has been a key influence in her drive to pursue a career in counseling.

Sheryl believes that therapy is a collaborative process between the client and therapist. She is eager to learn and gain practical experience in the field, aiming to create an environment where clients feel safe, heard, and empowered to grow. Sheryl is excited to continue developing her skills and contribute positively to the mental health field.

In her free time, Sheryl enjoys baking, reading, watching movies, travelling, and spending time with friends and family.
