Larissa Verhoeven Giffin
Social Worker / Therapist
Larissa has spent the last eight years passionately developing her skills in the helping profession. With a trauma informed approach, Larissa meets clients where they are, recognizes their skills, and supports their goals to help them make changes.
Completing a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Psychology and Sociology at Mount Allison University laid the groundwork for a Bachelor of Social Work from St. Thomas University. Afterward, she worked for a non-profit agency in rural Cape Breton supporting under-serviced youth and honed her therapeutic skills providing services to children, youth, adults, and couples for five years.
While working full time, Larissa completed an accelerated Master of Social Work through Dalhousie University. Ready to focus on her clinical skills, Larissa transitioned to the Health Authority working in two First Nation communities as an Adult Mental Health Clinician. In that role, she was able to strengthen her approaches in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Behavioural Activation, Motivational Interviewing, and Suicide Interventions.
Larissa recognizes the privilege of working with all people but particularly enjoys working with couples to address communication and problem solving issues. Using authenticity, care, and humour, she is able to make her clients feel comfortable opening up and problem solving together.
Larissa has been happily married for five years, she enjoys making pottery, doing photography, and playing ultimate frisbee. In the summer, you can find her wading into the nearest body of water. Originally from Sussex, New Brunswick, she has called Antigonish home for most of the last decade. Larissa is currently accepting clients online for tele-health appointments.
